Where the Fuck Is the World Actually At?

A starting point.

Not a prediction.

An observation from inside a world where many of the structures we relied upon appear increasingly unstable.

I keep finding myself asking the same question.

Where the fuck is the world actually at?

Not where the news tells me it is.

Not where the algorithms tell me it is.

Not where the politicians tell me it is.

Not where the economists tell me it is.

Not where the wellness industry tells me it is.

And not where I want it to be.

Where is it actually?

Because something feels different.

Not necessarily because everything is collapsing.

Perhaps something much more interesting is happening.

Perhaps we’re beginning to see the consequences of systems that have become extraordinarily sophisticated at solving the problems they were designed to solve…

while becoming increasingly disconnected from the larger systems of which they are a part.

So this is where I’m starting.

I don’t know exactly where the world is.

I don’t think anyone does.

I know that many of the maps we have been using are beginning to feel less reliable.

I know that systems can become extraordinarily good at doing what they were designed to do while losing sight of why they existed in the first place.

And I know that when the old coordinates stop making sense, the answer isn’t necessarily to find a better map immediately.

Sometimes the first thing to do is look again.

Without the story.

Without the prediction.

Without deciding what it means.

Just:

What is actually here?

That feels like a place worth beginning.
